The answer will be yes. There are sites out there which have downloadable
BIOS versions and utilities for flashing the cards but in the end if it
works OK at a BIOS level, given that once in Windows/OS the drivers take
over, what need do you have for a new BIOS? If it's better performance or
reliability, to a very large extent this is dictated by the drivers.
Probably because it's getting easier and easier to do... more and more
people are doing it without understanding the implications. Everybody has
gotten used to skipping straight past any warnings, these days.
I flash and update everything to the latest, I've even modified my
motherboard BIOS to have the latest SATA firmware in there. I have a bad
case of bigger-numbers, flashy-lights, lots-of-buttons syndrome but even I
haven't flashed my video card. Don't see any reason to.
Yes they are, but there's no reason to do so, and the probability of serious
aggravation is always there. You won't get any performance increase, you
can't flash a 9800XT BIOS into a 9800 Pro AIW. And there were no 9800XT AIW
cards. If you must do it, make sure you have a PCI video card on hand and a
copy of the original BIOS.
