I have an AIW 8500 installed with latest drivers in a Micron Millennia motherboard.
Windows XP Home with all updates installed. Motherboard has 2x-4X AGP capability,
but tests show board is only running at 1X . DirectX9.0b installed.

Other symptoms.

Starting MS Train Simulator and MS Combat Simulators - games try to start, but during configuration,
game minimizes and nothing will bring it back to full screen or a window. Pressing the button just cycles
through an attempt to maximize, then back to minimized.

Direct x Dxdiag refuses to run the 3D display test. Reports a button pushed, ending the test(s). I haven't
touched a thing.

I'm not sure what might be the problem. I've reinstalled everything after uninstalling and still have the
problem

Motherboard has a VIA chipset.

Any suggestions?

Paul

You might want to try installing the latest 4-1 drivers for
your chipset.

Irv - translate "4-1" drivers. Don't normally get down to that level, but am willing
to try....

4 in 1 Drivers. The latest drivers for a VIA chipset motherboard.

OK, found the VIA site and installed the latest 4in1 drivers. No change in
the behavior of these games or the DirectX dxdiag 3D test.

Any other suggestions?

hmm

Im trying to recall, I think i saw an article/faq on a problem like this
once, that suggested turn hardware acceleration down before running the
test. then turn it back up.

Sorry no links or willingness to research further for you.

I have discovered that Hydravision installed on my system, even though I only have one
monitor. I have made some setting changes to that software and everything seems to be working
OK now. Not obvious to me, since I didn't know it was there. I may uninstall it when I get a chance and
reinstall the other ATI software without it. But for now, I'll settle for a stable system.

Thanks for all the suggestions!
