AIM starts when OE is started

As of yesterday when I start Outlook express AOL instant messenger also
starts.
I had removed AOL monthe ago using add/remove programs and was very suprised
when it started today. Is anyone having the same issue? is there a way to
stop it?
I have XP service pack2, IE and OE ver 6.00.2900.2180.
 
there is an option in OE to start registered messenger type program.

I have never had that problem. Mostly because I did not select AIM to be my
default IM client. It sounds like AIM did not get properly uninstalled. If
you don't want to use it, you might try reinstalling it, *without* selecting
the "Make AIM the default IM client" option selected. Then uninstall it
again.
