I downloaded aim on the my roommates computer. whenever i
go to install it, it tells me to try again once i
have "administrator's rights." the computer was purchased
legit and the windows came with the computer. everything
has been registered, yet aim install keeps saying the
same thing. what is causing this and what can be done to
remedy it?

You have to be the administrator to install programs
chances are your room mate will be, and be able (if he/she sees fit to) make you one also.
A way to check if you are is to go to control panel,User accounts, you should see your name and underneath you name you will either see limited account or computer administrator.(you should be limited account

Greetings --

You have to be logged into the machine using an account that has
administrative privileges. Since it's not your computer, ask your
roommate for permission/assistance.
