Hi,

I want to install win2k server on a ACER altos G610 with AIC-7899 SCSI
controller but the win2k installation process doesn't see it and then can't
detect HD. How can I make Win2k setup to see hard drives?

Thanks in advance.

At the beginning of the installation process you have to press F6 when
prompted and supply the controller drivers on a floppy diskette. Pay
close attention to the messages at the bottom of the screen when the
setup begins and you will see a prompt instructing you to press F6 to
install RAID/SCSI drivers.

Thanks John for replying.

Though your're right on the F6 process and it works up to that point. On the
2000 setup screen, the process keeps saying that it doesn't find any Hard
Disk??? SCO Unix Open Server 5 was previously installed and I haven't
changed any boot up config. Unless I have the wrong drivers but I did
download AIC-7899 for Win2k....

Thanks again. It's appreciated

It sounds like you are using the wrong drivers. Was the SCSI controller
supplied by Acer?

John

Well,

I first tried the one I found on Acer's Website and then AIC one and got the
same result. I'll check again on Acer's Website and see if there is any
other drivers available.

Thanks

Steve

I didn't do any extensive searching on Acer's site and I don't have any
real experience with Acer other than working on a few W9x machines many
moons ago, but a quick search for your server model number doesn't yield
anything for AIC controller drivers. I can only find drivers for SDR
GEM 318 SCSI Processor Device driver for Windows 2000.

Hence my question as to whether or not the controller was supplied by
Acer or added by others, and my suspicion that you may be using the
wrong drivers.

Hi John,

Finally what I did is connected HD bypassing the SCSI Controller. So Windows
setup detected hard drives. Once Win2k was installed, I made sure All SCSI
HD and controller were properly configured in Windows. I set HD back
connected on the controller, ran SCSI Raid utility to rebuilt de RAID and
averything is fine now. I tried lots of controller drivers and it never
worked. Thanks for your help.

Steve

You're welcome.
