I have used Trojan detection programs a long side Kaspersky and it has never
found another Trojan after scanning with Kaspersky. With a firewall that
monitors out going connection you will see if a Trojan is trying to phone
home.
Have you ever considered the possibility of a 'suite' of such detection software being created by the same outfit or several outfits cooperating with each other. each agreeing to not detect certain 'features' of the other's softwares?
Bear in mind that I was also speaking specifically about ON-LINE web based scanners. I don't care WHO makes it or WHAT their reputation is, I cannot imagine a good reason to trust any of them as far as I could throw my house when it comes to them being nice enough to not invade my privacy with thier online "scanner".
while i'm at it, avoid Google Desktop for the same reasons, it catalogs your pc's contents alright, but you can bet that the details of that catalog WILL be returned to Google at some point, and then sold or copied to marketers, spammers, and government agencies.
I'm sure that you're thinking by now that my tinfoil hat is on a little too tight and that's fine with me. you believe what you want, you're going to anyway. But when people start getting in shitloads of trouble because GD found something 'illegal' on their computer, you be sure to remember that I warned you.
Paranoid? You better ****ing believe I'm paranoid!
Please remember, just because I'm paranoid does NOT meant that "THEY" aren't out to get me! (and you too for that matter if you'd only listen!)
That's why I use Stunnel, Tor, Privoxy, PGP, Freenet, Anonymous Remailers and mail2news gateways and do regular maintenance like deleting cookies, cache files, and wipe free space and file slack with 10 or more passes.
