I'm using XP home & IE6. After installing a small LAN
between my Desktop & Laptop, every time I boot up
something checks the PROXY box. Since I don't use a
PROXY, it causes the error 'Unknown proxy null:0:' . Then
I go & remove the check marks & they come back the next
time I boot-up. How can I remove them permintly?

I have a similar problem using IE6 and Windows 98.
Everytime I open IntExplorer, the bottom of the screen
says "Detecting proxy settings" and it does so for a
minute or two while I wait. When it finally finds my home
page, I go to the proxy box in LAN settings, delete the
proxy address, and uncheck the box. From there on, any
further IE windows I open work fine. But if I quit IE, and
later open it again, the proxy box is rechecked, and the
same address is in the box. I've been searching for an
answer to this problem for months, and this is the first
losest thing Ive found anywhere. I tried repairing IE,
have you done this? I also ran SpyBot - dont know if that
would even be related, but it was worth a try. What else
can we do to make the box stop checking itself?
