That's a tough price point, because ATI AGP cards worth
buying (X800/X850) are more expensive, while ATI cards
at or under $150 aren't worth buying. If you can find a
used X800/X850 in good condition for around that price
(I've seen X800 XT's go for as little as $100 on eBay)
that's probably your best bet.

It's too bad you don't like NV, their 6800 series is by far
the best bang for the buck in that price range, at least for
new cards and at least for AGP.

Tough luck, then. The nVidia 6600GT offers the best value at this price
point.

9800 Pro or X700 Pro AGP. Either card is *just* fast enough to play Doom 3.

The newest card that uses the ATI GPU line with AGP is the ATI X1600 Pro.
At Newegg.com there is an HIS brand X1600 PRO 256MB AGP for $109 after $10
mail in rebate.
Also X800GTO 256MB AGP for $124.99, after $15 mail in rebate.

ATI has a sweet deal on refurb X800XL cards.

16 pipes at 400MHz, 256 bit memory at 500/1000. I got one a few weeks
back; it made a great upgrade from my 9700.

Should easily outperform any x1600 xariants; and will slaughter the x700
cards.

The thing is plenty fast at stock speeds, but I have played around with
some OC. The core will only reach ~430 with the stock cooler; and even
with something better, an XL chip probably won't break 450. Memory is
good to 560/1120.
