I have a 3 year old ECS 661fx MB which was running W2k with an ASUS
v9400 AGP card. Yesterday I did a clean install of XP pro. The install
hung at the first reboot. I was able to replicate this and it always
hung at the same point. I later found out that the install was OK but
the graphics card was preventing startup. Out it came, install finished
OK, with the onboard graphics.
After that I shutdown and replaced the card, but the machine refuses to
start the OS after the startup drivers are loaded.
In short, on the SAME machine, W2k installs and works perfectly, but
when WXP is installed, it hangs at the startup. This rules out a
hardware defect, and since it POSTS and boots, it's not in the BIOS(I
don't think). I have researched extensively and can;t find any
information to help.
System is ECS 661fx-m MB
P4 300 GHz
Asus v9400-x/td
1 Gig DDR400
no other cards
all hardware is on the HCL
Any suggestions on how to get around the problem?
