Hi,

I have a old motherboard w/AGP 2X. I want to "max out" the slot - have the
hottest card - even if the card is discontinued I can probably get it
used...

Any recommendations appreciated.

Thanks,
Lee G.

good luck... the problem here is the fact that the 2X slots were rarely
combo slots (able to take 2x,4x) finding a 2x card anywhere but ebay or swap
meets will be difficult.

Any 4x or 8x AGP card should still work at 2x.

I think most the Ati Radeon 9200 card are compatible with AGP2/4/8x

What system is it you have? What socket type and CPU speed and type?

Cheers!

ABIT BX6 rev2

I like this article on AGP.

http://www.playtool.com/pages/agpcompat/agp.html

BX6 is 440BX chipset, so the motherboard would be
"AGP 3.3V Motherboard". That means the video card should
be "Universal AGP Card" or "Universal AGP 3.0 Card".
A "Universal 1.5V AGP 3.0 Card" would be a bad choice,
and the plastic key in the AGP slot should prevent one
of those from being plugged in. An Nvidia FX5200 might
be a possibility (find one with a 128bit memory interface
inside).

not that they won't work at 2X, its the slot/voltage thats not compatable

4x (max) cards were usually reverse compatible. Should say so if they are.

An 8x 'universal' would too but I doubt that many bothered.
