Now don't laugh guys, i know this is old but it was working just a few eeks ago. Now every time I try to scan it tells me it is locked, I have found a manual on line and found where the lock is and it is not locked, I have tried locking it then opening it again and it hasn't worked.

Any ideas or should I bin it?

If so any suggestions for a new one. All I want to do is scan some old family photos, a mix of very old, I mean Victorian era, 1950/1960s black and white up to stuff taken a few weeks ago. Resulting pictures need to be good enough to share with my sister without her feeling hard done by if I keep the originals.

No idea what price range as I haven't got a clue on the price of this sort of thing, just give me some ideas.

You could try updating the drivers and see if that makes a difference, but if there's something physically wrong then it might just need to be chucked:

New scanners are actually more expensive than I remember, with the cheaper ones coming in at around £50-60.

There are 2 big differences in them too. Some are just USB powered (such as http://www.ebuyer.com/product/150563), which are really light and portable and handy to store away... but the image quality isn't quite as good for photos (but still not bad at all). The mains powered ones (i.e. http://www.ebuyer.com/product/118667) have a brighter light and product a slightly better image and are sometimes faster, but they take up more storage space.

Funny how scanners have stood still in technology ... it's these all-in-one thingymebobs that people buy.

Test anything you may be interested in buyin ...

thank Ian , that is where we got the drivers froma s the original ha been lost years agom the scanner had been put away but has come out to copy these family photos.

I think the photos are good enough to warrent a slightly better reproduction so I'll have a look at the mains powered one.

I've been using This one for 26 months now and can highly recommend it :thumb:

Good quality from normal scans, slides and negatives. And as scanners go, it's fast.
 
Thanks for the info, my partner tells me I was using the wrong adaptor so it wasn't getting enough power, duh!

Hopefully it will work, if only I can find the right lead. :)

Good idea, Will do the same when i have matched up all the other unidentified leads lying around the house.

Note to self must get more organized. :)
