HELP!! - I just installed Win XP-Pro - then installed
Ages of Empires II - Installed the update - When the game
starts it runs the intro videos - then goes to a dark
grey screen and goes no further. I've tried all the
Microsoft "Shortcuts" for loading the game with the same
results. I've also tried it in all the "Compatibility
Modes" with the same results. When I had Windows 2000 and
Windows 98 the game ran fine so I don't suspect my
hardware setup. Would appreciate any help...Thanks

Hi Terry,
The drivers that shipped with XP-Pro are now older drivers. You should
go to windows update and update all your files. You will likely find a new
video driver that is (WHQL) certified. After updating try the game again.
If it is still dark, go to your video vender website and download their
latest driver and see if that resolves the issue.

Thanks for the post!

Hey, i have exactly the same problem... except i have XP
Home and when i had got my computer two months ago I ran
AOE II and it worked. After 2 months of adding updates,
patches that the system kept asking me to do, AOE II does
not run - does exactly what this email described and then
i have to hardboot the machine to get out of it.
If you do find a working solution i would really
appreciate it.
Thanks.
