I've not played the Age of Empires II Gold yet , I have played the
Conquerers Gold games . The sound skips periodically but several times
during each skipping . I think it got better when I installed the sound card
drivers a second time . I'm using a Geniusnet 5.1 Value Sound Card . An
interesting thing is that the card has jumpers on it but there is no
reference to the jumpers in the manual . What a bloidy nuisance ! I've got
4.1 speakers installed and they go ok , all 4 , and the subwoofer's ok , and
the Windows sound is configured ok . I unplugged the microphone . gawk

Hi Umwhat,

Go into the Properties of the card via the Device Manager and
use the Roll Back drivers option to return to the previous drivers
which were working well with that card and AOE II.

Hi Jimmy S ,
thanks for replying
I habitually update every Nvidia display driver with the latest drivers
.. I installed the AoE's II Gold with the Conquerers when I had the nvidia
display driver version before the latest 81.98 drivers version and the
skipping happened then too .

Hi Umwhat,

Actually, I was suggesting that you roll back your sound drivers.
Put them back to the version that was working with that game. :-)

I did a clean boot and played AoE Gold the Conquerers and the sound still
skips . I think I'm using the C-Media sound drivers and I looked at them in
the sound settings and looked at the roll back drivers and there are no
drivers to rool back to . I suppose that could be because I did the clean
boot .
While I have this window open I looked in Add and Remove programs list and
there was , PCI Audio Device , but thee was no size . I selected to change or
remove and a window showed reading that the audio driver was removed and
gave the options to restart , start later or something else and i just closed
the window by clicking the X . C Media devices are listed in the sound
properties so now I'll check to be sure the C Media drivers are still there .

Jimmy S
the problem was the drivers like you said . When I first tried downloading
drivers the geniusnet website was being changed . The software cd I has old
drivers and the only site available from which I got drivers was out of date
.. Now that geniusnet has updated their website I have the latest drivers and
no problem in the Age of Empires Gold .
Thankyou

Hi Umwhat,

That's great news! I'm glad we've got that working for you again. :-)
