There have been a number of suggestion on this subject, some of them are
quite complicated.
Would the program "Microsoft Virtual PC 2007" be another alternative and has
been tested for dual booting XP/Vista?
(It is available for free from Microsoft)

I have run Vista on VPC 2007. It is fine if you have sufficient memory,
remember Vista needs minimum of 512MB so your machine really needs 1 to 2GB
of memory. The only problem i found was that internet connectivity (via the
XP connection) was hit and miss, but then VPC 2007 is still in beta.
