Hi,

I have a IBM Thinkpad T40 laptop running Windows XP SP1. After the last
windows update I have an interesting problem, basically every second or
third time I start the laptop the keyboard dosen't work. This is also the
same when I install an external keyboard. I have seen this also on a
colleagues machine and it never happened to me until after the last
windowsupdate.

seeing that this has now happened on two laptops at our company I can only
assume that it is happening elsewhere too. what can i do about this? As it
is an alternating fault maybe it is something to do with the order in which
things start up?

Any help much appreciated,

JB

I am having a similar problem. I am running XP Pro SP1a.
My computer will start up the keyboard will work every single time when I
enter my password.
But then when I am logged in sometimes my keyboard works and sometimes it
doesn't. If it doesn't I have to log out and log back in or restart.

Can you please include the ID of the last patch that you downloaded before
you encountered the issue?
Is this issue only seen on a T40 laptop or on other systems too? What kind
of an external keyboard did you connect (i.e. USB, Bluetooth, PS2)?

I'm not sure which patches have been installed at the latest as I just used
windows update and installed evrything that was outstanding, which was about
3 patches. Anyway here's the list of what is installed:

Hotfix - KB820291
Hotfix - KB821253
Hotfix - KB822603
Hotfix - KB823182
Hotfix - KB824105
Hotfix - KB824141
Hotfix - KB824146
Hotfix - KB825119
Hotfix - KB826939
Hotfix - KB828035
Hotfix - KB829558
Hotfix - (SP2) Q322011
Hotfix - (SP2) Q327979
Hotfix - (SP2) Q814995

Any Ideas what i could do ?

Thanx

JB

Go to the Windows Update site and click on "View Installation History" under
"Other Options" in the left pane. This will list the updates you installed
in order so you can see which updates were installed on which day (and
whether they were successful or not).
