I installed XP pro with svc pk 1, not an upgrade, over a win2k system and
all is well.
Single user machine, no password etc needed, boots right to the desktop.

Installed svcpak 3, now it boots to a logon screen. Enter gets it going
since no password, but how can I eliminate the logon screen?

TIA

Alt. 1: / Control Panel / Users
Alt. 2: TweakUI.

Start - Run - Control userpasswords2 - uncheck "Users must enter a
username and password to use this computer"

Hope this helps!

Sounds like you've identified the culprit. I bet it is replacing the
GINA so that it can establish a network connection before a user logs
on, which most wireless adapters have problems doing. I don't know how
to help you with the GINA replacement, other than to uninstall the
realtek driver/software to verify that doing so fixes the problem.

Arthur: All my life I've had this strange feeling that there's something
big and sinister going on in the world.
Slartibartfast: No, that's perfectly normal paranoia. Everyone in the
universe gets that.

Now, this is interesting. I went to User Accounts, Change the way a user
logs on, and got a popup screen saying "A recently installed program has
disabled the Welcome screen and Fast User Switching. To restore these
features you must uninstall the program. The following file name might
help you identify the program that made the change:
C:\windows\system32\rtl8185\rtlgina.dll" and the options are greyed out.

I do have a wireless pci card installed and when installing I noticed it was
the realtek chipset and I wonder if this is the offending program?

Thanks for your answers and look forward to more input on this new point.
