I'm running IE 6 SP1. After selecting Open to download/display a file
(.pdf, .doc, etc.) a dialog box displays and only offers me a choice to Save
As rather than simply displaying the file within the browser. This happens
on some, but not all of my computers (They all run Windows 2000 Pro). For
what it's worth this seemed to happen about the same time that I upgraded
our computers to Office 2003. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks - Steve Snure

Check your File type association.
Remove the "Confirm open after download" box

Do not have access to a W2000 but I think you will be able to locate the
option.

This is what you would do if you wanted the prompt.

You set this for each file type, e.g. for .zip
Explorer-View-Folder Options-File Types
Find the .zip association (may be WinZip File)
Edit, (or click Advanced on ME or XP) and check the "Confirm open
after download" box

The path to Folder Options may vary according to your operating
system. It may be:
Explorer-View-Folder Options
Explorer-Tools-Folder Options
Start-Settings-Folder Options
Start-Settings-Control Panel-Folder options.

Henri,

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately that did not take care of the problem.
From reading your response and a few others I see that this can fix the
problem whereby the file is not opened after downloading (the user selects
open and nothing happens or the file is actually loaded in the Office
program rather than the browser). In my case I select "Open" and am
immediately presented with the "Save As" dialog box. What should happen is
that after selecting Open the file downloads and displays within the
browser. There should be no "Save As" prompt. Any other thoughts?

....Steve
