I live in San Diego and since the power outage my
computer locks up. I did all the normal stuff ie: virus
check etc.

Greetings --

If the hard drive was active at the time the power went out, you
may have experience some file corruption. Have you run Chkdsk to
clear up any possible errors?

Start > Run > Cmd > "Chkdsk.exe /?" for the correct syntax and
available options.

Alternatively, double-click My Computer > right-click the desired
hard drive > Properties > Tools > Error-checking/Check Now. This will
run Chkdsk, normally on the next reboot.

Yes, I checked the disc earlier today and nothing to
report. I also did a defrag, virus scan.

So much for that theory. ;-}

You might want to test your RAM for damage, on the off-chance that
there was a brief power surge accompanying the power outage.
