After Norton Installation:Pesky window "There is no disk in the dr

I tried to install Norton Internet Security 2006 two days ago and have been
having lots of problems ever since. My Internet connection quit working, but
I finally got it working. My DVD/CD-ROM drive quit working, and there was a
message "There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive." I
finally got that to work too--many hours later--after downloading some files
and uninstalling Norton (Symantec).
(In all fairness to Symantec, the program probably did not install correctly
because I did not properly uninstall my old 2005 version first--but shouldn't
software from the same company do that automatically?)

Everything seems to be working fairly well now, except:

1. my DVD/CD-ROM drive does not recognize the Norton Installation
CD--although as I said above, at least I got it back to working fine with
other CDs.

2. A pesky window is always showing the message I mentioned above: "There
is no disk in the drive..."--it won't even go behind another window (I just
have to shove it off to the side while I'm trying to do something.)

I'm pretty sure this has to do with Norton, but the Symantec tech support
would not take ownership of the problem and said it was not caused by the
failed installation of Norton.

I would be ever so grateful if someone could tell me what to do or direct me
to an appropriate website.

Thanks in advance,

Norton are NOT to be believed
Go to the home site and download the special removal tool and uninstall all
Norton files
Then reinstall NIS---make sure you run Diskcleanup and close all running
files before installing

Thank you, Eric!

I had actually already downloaded the Norton uninstall files and had used
them, but I was still getting the pesky window. I had been thinking about
not trying to reinstall Norton and using to a different program, but your
post gave me the courage to go ahead and try to reinstall Norton. It worked
like a charm this time, and that pesky window disappeared!

Thanks for your input!
