after installing scanner I get consistent pop-ups from Windows

I've recently installed a scanner driver that is compatible with my OS
(Windows XP). I've installed it correctly because the scanner works.
However, I keep having a pop-up that says that Widows is trying to configure
Ominis 4.4 which is a program in the scanner's CD-ROM. This has occured ever
since I installed the scanner (and it took my computer days before it reacted
to the scanner being turned on).
My computer has slowed noticeably.

I have tried uninstalling and installing but the problem remains.

Thank you for any help.

The scanner is from Canon called CanoScan4400F.

My Windows has a hard time configuring something called "Omnis"...

Thanks.

Mary

Perhaps its Omni page, a version of which is installed with the cannon
software.
Did you install the scanner as per Cannon instructions, which from
recollection means installing Cannon software first and only connecting the
scanner when the software install asks?

Sorry, it's not Ominis. It is called "ScanSoft Omni Page SE 4.0"

I was careful about that and install the scanner per instructions.

Do you know if I need this Omni? Is it possible to uninstall that and just
work with ArcSoft Photo Studio. That works. I don't quite know what Omni
does...

Thanks.

Mary

Its OCR software for use when scanning a document that is editable
It would appear that this part of the Cannon software hasnt been installed
successfully
It Should be listed under Program Files/Caere Applications, and there should
be a help file there giving installation instructions

Thank you DL, that was very helpful.

Hi! I am having a similar problem and I am frustrated because I even took my
computer in for repairs and DATA DRS could not figure this out. Can someone
please enlighten me? My Computer (when I run my Sonic Digital Media Plus
program ONLY) comes up with an error and an automatic install (or at least
tries to) of something called SCAN SOFT OMNIPAGE SE 4.0

I have searched the microsoft website and HP for a patch or installation
updates etc. I cant find anything. When I bought the computer it was an
open box deal and the only disc in here was a lightscribe CD. (for the
lightscribe software) I am upset because it never did it until recently.

What can I do? Please help if you can.

I am also getting a fatal error when I am trying to install service Pack
three. There are three updates that will not load. It says cannot complete
install because of a fatal error. That sounds scary!

These are the three

Office 2003 Update for Outlook Junk Email Filter 2003 (KB943552) Monday,
January 28, 2008 Microsoft Update
Office 2003 Security Update for Excel 2003 (KB940602) Monday, January 28,
2008 Microsoft Update
Office 2003 Security Update for Office 2003 (KB936048)

Forget SP3 for XP: It's still buggy. Wait for the production release
later this year.

....
Don't go to Data Drs again; and tell your friends.

Uninstall OmniPage 4 AND your scanner/drivers. That's an ancient
version of OmniPage software and could well be part of the problem.
Leave it uninstalled until you get the computer working right again.

Can I assume you have XP? Which version?
Where did you get your XP CD from?
Answer these questions and come back with the results. Than perhaps
someone can help if it still has problems.
