After duplicating record problem

Hi basically the problem I have is when I duplicate a record I have to go
into the Registration Number field delete the last digit then put it back in
place to get the After Update Event code to run this then gives me all the
up to date policy info on this client that I need.

How do I get the after update code to run in the Registration Number field
as soon as I have duplicated a record without doing the above.
