After disabling ICS and becoming DHCP client - network connection is inconsistent.

Hi,
This has happened on 2 Win2K machines on 2 different networks.
They were originally my internet gateway machines, with modems
connecting to the internet and Internet Connection Sharing enabled.

Then I got a better gateway with it's own DHCP server (in one case an
XP machine, in the other a gateway ADSL box). I disabled ICS on my
win2k machine and set it to be a client.

It works sometimes. Sometimes it doesn't get it's IP address at all. I
can manually configure the IP address and gateway and it will work
better (but still has odd speed problems).

I've deleted the network card entirely and reinstalled, with no
effect.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
Greg

If you manually do a ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew do you see the
issue? ie do you get an IP right away?

I'll try that when next I have access to the machines (may be a few weeks!)
Will let you know. Thanks

No, it didn't work. Damn! :)

Though ejecting the network card (at least on the laptop machine!)
and reinserting generally works well for a time.

Thanks - I don't want to pay money to fix a bug!
