Hi. I'm a newbie and have installed Windows 2000 Server on my standalone
desktop and it's attached to a regular router>dsl modem. I was surfing fine,
but after i setup Active Directory on my server and give it a Domain name
(though i don't have any registered) i lost my internet connection. Any way
to get it back? Thanks much.

Not necessary or even important to register a purely Internal
DNS zone if you don't live in an (internal) DNS tree with a
parent who needs to find you.

Setup your DNS server on your new DC to EITHER "recurse the Internet"
or "Forward to your ISP DNS server or (better) your Gateway DNS Server".

There is a reasonably good chance you will find a "." (dot-) zone when you
look in the DNS console under your Server->Forward zones. Then fill in
the forwarder tab if you wish.

You need to DELETE that "." (DOT) zone -- it is only needed by people
who actually create it themselves (which is probably less than 1 in a
million.)

If the DOT zone exists your server will neither forward nor recurse.

Do NOT try to change your Server->NIC->IP properties to include the
external DNS server IF you wish your new domain to work. Even if
it seems to work it will NEVER be RELIABLE.
