I bought myself a new computer last week, it already had Vista Home Premium
installed on it, and it worked fine for a week. Now suddenly, all Aero
functions stopped working, the 3D flip view, the glass effects, even the
window-color functions are gone. Could someone please help me?

Right click on the desktop. Chose Personalize. Click Windows Color and
Appearance. In that widow click the blue Open Classic,,,,,,,,,,,,line at
bottom. When the dialog opens look at the list in Color Scheme and chose
aero

I tried that, but when I choose Aero, when I go back it's reset to Windows
Vista Basic.

Have you checked in the 'performance' thing what your graphics is rated as -
if it is fuzzied out, rebenchmark it by clicking on refresh.

You probably have something running blocking Aero or you
installed something that prevents it from working, Use TaskManager
to END PROCESS on suspected culprits and then try Aero. What
have you installed recently? Did you try going back to a previous
Restore Point?

You said you update to Premium so how would it go back to basic. You did get
the Prem update CD or did you just expect the updte at MS do that??

The only program I installed today is PhotoShop, which can't be causing any
problems. I rebooted and everything seems to be working again now. Thank you
all very much for trying to help me :).

It a graphics programs forces your video card to its maximum
capabilities (and for other reasons) Aero will be turned off.
Comparing a non-similar system to yours does not have any
true meaning. You may find that when you use Photo Shop
or similar Graphics Programs that Aero will be turned off.

Since your Performance is 3, 4 this is a sure bet. Happens
here and this system has 3.1, 3.2 which is barely Aero
capable.

Dad's computer's exactly the same :p and I'm looking at PS inaero view now,
so don't know what else might've caused the problem =/.

I know what caused the problem, it just happened again. It happens when
watching a DivX movie online, this time I got a pop-up saying the color
scheme was changed. Seems like Aero isn't compatible with DivX =/.

Upgrade your version of the DivX codec from divx.com. No problems with Aero
here.

NOTE: Do a CUSTOM install and ONLY install the codec. The other components of
the download are not compatible with Vista yet.

Worked perfectly, thank you very much :D.

Hey, um I'm having this problem with some of Vistas icon. The Downloads icon
out of nowhere turned yellow (u now how its greenish blue) and so did the
Music icon. I can't seem to get them back to normal. Is there a way to change
it back?

My laptop is doing the same thing. I bought it about 2 weeks ago and it
worked fine the first couple of days. Now all of a sudden it says windows
aero is not working and won't let me access my installed programs. It also
says my copy of windows is not genuine, but I went to the website and
validated it several times. I'm beginning to see why I haven't heard anything
good about Vista.
