I cant remember clearly but I think during vista development MS said that
they will release the glass interface and few other vista features for xp as
separate downloads. Is that correct?

I don't think so. If you want a Vista type Desktop in XP there is not much
of a problem tho. For example a very good free Sidebar is here...

To carry on with the Vista look a very good tutorial here...

He is doing everything with MS stuff for free but does mention a pay item
(Windows Blinds methinks) that if you followed through on that you can
probably get the whole Aero look and feel.

A forum you might want to visit...

Thanks Dave and Leonard.

My prediction, for whatever that's worth, is that people will get tired
of the new interface and switch off most of it in favor of better
performance, similar to what happened with Windows XP.

Do you think that most people run (or ran) Windows XP with the classic
interface? That hasn't been my experience at all.

Not the classic interface, Ken, but with virtually all the Luna eye
candy turned off (as in Control Panel > System > Advanced tab >
Performance - Settings button > Visual Effects tab). Perhaps Microsoft
anticipated this by allowing users to choose settings between "best
appearance" and "best performance".

If I'm able to choose between glitz and snappier performance I'll choose
the latter, and from what I've read about Vista I'll be able to make
similar choices. I'll leave the looking glass to Alice. ;-)
