I've been using AdwareAlert, somehow thinking that it was
AdAware!
I just now noticed the difference in another post.
It seems to do a good job of scanning, but does it at all do
the same
function ?
You'd be hard pressed to find decent comparisons of all the scanners
of this kind that have proliferated. If you're very lucky, you might
find some credible individual who routinely cleans malware off PCs
who can give you some info on which scanners he/she finds most
useful ... and which ones to avoid.

Note that AdwareAlert has been taken off the rouge/suspect list. It
once was judged to produce too many false alerts. That's one of the
gimmicks that's used. Some "find" malware that isn't there to make it
appear that the product is finding malware others don't. Know that
there's a large number of crap scanners, and many users being
suckered into paying for them.
Lavasoft's Ad-Aware has long had a good reputation, and it's free.
Same goes for SpyBot S&D. The emphasis is different ... one aimed
primarily at adware and the other at spyware. But there's considerable
overlap ... to a large degree both find the same malwares.
I'm not aware of any decent "top rated" source for scanners of
this kind, and I have no idea where AdwareAlert might fall in such
a rating.
