adware/spyware problem in IE 6, not cleaned by ad-aware

Using IE version 6.0.2900.2180.wpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519

In favorites there is a whole list of folders and links that do not show
when I try to delete them through organise favorites. Folders include "Cool
Stuff, Shopping, travel and internet gaming". Some others are direct links to
websites
e.g.http://dns-look-up.com/search/search.cgi?s=casino+online&src=bookmarks

On starting IE I get a large blue bar (in MSN colours) at the bottom of the
screen with options to search for travel, casino etc. I cannot right click
this and its properties are not shown from any of the IE menus.

About every five minutes when on explorere I get a pop up window advertising
anything from computers to charities.

I have run adaware and if it is cleaning it, it is re-initialising on start
up.

I need to get rid of this program - in my view it is malicious because it
cannot be uninstalled and produces sometimes inappropriate sites etc. I
assume that one of my kids has installed it from a pop up option. This sort
of software

Anyone heard of this? and better still got a way of getting rid of it?

Thanks - all advice gratefully received.

Hi,
This sounds like the work of Messenger Plus (not a Microsoft product) from
http://www.msgplus.net/ or another download site. These favorites are
created by the sponsor software. You can install Messenger Plus without the
sponsor software.

Uninstalling/reinstalling Messenger Plus without the sponsor software *may*
remove these favorites.

If unsuccessful with that, get help via HijackThis. Start at

http://www.aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm Work through the preliminary cleaning
steps then post a HijackThis log to the forum at

Great answer, that's exactly it. For clarity, if you go to uninstall (from
add/remove programs in the control panel and select MSN plus), you get the
option to just remove the sponsor program, which generates the adverts (and
annoyance), but leave MSN plus.

Pesky kids!!

Mike,
I didn't know that they had made it *that* easy to remove the sponsor junk.
Thanks for reporting back.
