My computer scan showed that I had two files infected with AdWare.blazefind.
I went to the Symantec page and followed the directions for removal.
However, when I got to the registry to edit out the selected keys, they
weren't there....now I have no clue what to do. Any help would be sincerely
appreciated.

Hi Jane

If your scanner detected the infection it may have cleaned it already. Which
scanner did you use and have you tried running it a second time?
If it is still there try using these steps from the BlazeFind site:
How do I uninstall the search bar located in my Internet Explorer?
The Blazefind toolbar is located at the top of your Internet Explorer
browser, below the address bar. To remove it, open the "Add-Remove Programs"
in the Control Panel (in START>CONTROL PANEL), select "Internet Explorer
Search Bar" and click on "change/remove". It should open a webpage
confirming the removal.

The second part of the application is called Windows Search Functions which
is uninstalled in the same way but pops message boxes to make sure you
really want to remove it.

When you are uninstalling 'Windows Search Functions', you will get three pop
ups to confirm your action. You must click YES to the first two pop ups and
NO to the 3rd one. If you do not click NO to the third pop up, the program
will not be removed.

You should reboot your computer after making a change to make sure it will
be saved.

How do I uninstall the search bar located in my taskbar (on the desktop)?

The Blazefind Search Assistant is located in your desktop's task bar (bottom
of the screen). To remove it, open the "Add-Remove Programs" in the Control
Panel (in START>CONTROL PANEL), select the application "Windows SA" and
click on "change/remove". Click yes to uninstall the program and reboot your
computer to make sure the changes are saved.

I hope that helps

1) Download the following three items...

Trend Sysclean Package
http://www.trendmicro.com/download/dcs.asp

Latest Trend signature files.
http://www.trendmicro.com/download/pattern.asp

Adaware SE (personal free version)
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

Create a directory.
On drive "C:\"
(e.g., "c:\New Folder")
or the desktop
(e.g., "C:\Documents and Settings\lipman\Desktop\New Folder")

Download sysclean.com and place it in that directory.
Dowload the signature files (pattern files) by obtaining the ZIP file.
For example; lpt206.zip

Extract the contents of the ZIP file and place the contents in the same directory as
sysclean.com.

2) Update Adware with the latest definitions.
3) If you are using WinME or WinXP, disable System Restore
http://vil.nai.com/vil/SystemHelpDocs/DisableSysRestore.htm
4) Reboot your PC into Safe Mode
5) Using both the Trend Sysclean utility and Adaware, perform a Full Scan of your
platform and clean/delete any infectors/parasites found.
(a few cycles may be needed)
6) Restart your PC and perform a "final" Full Scan of your platform using both the
Trend Sysclean utility and Adaware
7) If you are using WinME or WinXP,Re-enable System Restore and re-apply any
System Restore preferences, (e.g. HD space to use suggested 400 ~ 600MB),
8) Reboot your PC.
9) If you are using WinME or WinXP, create a new Restore point
10) Please report back your results

Hey one other note....I believe BlazeFind is the adware that screws up
the userinit.exe entry in the registry.

It results in the login-logoff loop. Just be aware that this MAY happen.

Here is a posting about it if anyone suffers from this:
