My speakers just finished dying on me (cheap cr*p, surprised they lasted this long) and I need new ones. Have not bad 5.1 capabilities on my mobo, so can anyone suggest a decent, but not too expensive speaker setup?
Under £100 is the only consideration, and they dont have to be 5.1. I dont like cabling so would prob sit the "rear" speakers in front of me, thus wasting the advantage. :)

Cheers

Altec Lansing and recently Logitech have come up with very good systems, I have recommended them to many on the forum as well as other places, I also found the best prices offered on these two brands at Amazon. Do a bit of research and see what you like.

With that kind of a budget you could get a great 2.1 system which actually will be sounding very respectable. If I were you and had this kind of budget I would not even consider a 5.1 since it would be grossly compromised in quality sound. The rule of thumb is £100 2.1 equals to £250 for a 5.1- meaning you need to spend two and half times what you would buy a 2.1 for to achieve more or less same standard.

I hope this helps.

I'd agree with Quad. If you're not going to take advantage of a 5.1 system, get a good quality 2.1 system. And, in my opinion, Music sounds one helluva lot better on a 2.1 system.

I like Logitech myself, great sounding computer speaker systems.

If you must go 5.1, however, there is a Logi 5.1 system available within your budget, has had good reviews as well. Check out overclockers.com (Esnet) or the usual suspects ;)

well... have found the Logitech Z-2300 that seem to be getting good reviews. About £95 all in, may go for that. :) Then again I may be pikey and try to find something cheaper :)

That's the one, that's a good Logitech system.

Go pikey and find something cheaper?

You do realise you'll have to trade at least two burnt out Metros and an Escort gearbox to gain access to pikey sites? ;)

Don't be a cheapskate, buy something good :D

Any of you older folk here remember Amstrad? They made supposed 'Hi-Fi' systems that sounded marginally worse than a washing machine on steroids.

Kenny's an Amstrad contender :D

Yes you should take Flops sane advise:)

By the way the speakers you chose, that is no doubt a good model, go for it before you change your mind.:)

Do let us know how they sound once you hook them up :D

I spent £70 on my 2.1 ... and I'm a Scotsman.

... and I also agree with my two cohorts.

Just call us the three stooges.

i`m Scottish too Sir Mucks... Glaswegian no less.

Sir Flops... Thats emotional blackmail- you know i`ll do anything to avoid that Amstrad tag!

Heh :)

When i scrape the last of the money (coming soon) will post what I think of the speakers :) No point doing a review- sound is always a very personal thing. :)
