I've got a small office with one 'phone line and i want to buy a
printer/scanner/fax/copier. There used to be ones which would
recognise the difference between an incoming fax and an incoming
'phone call. I've checked Lexmark, Cannon and Brother but nobody seems
to do one.

Can anybody help?

Several manufacturers provide this. Brother, HP and Canon included, don't know
about Lexmark.
But, it relies on a service called distinctive ring (in most countries), this
must be provided by your phone company. Essentially it provides a dedicated FAX
telephone number (different to your normal number) on the same physical line as
your phone, this number has a different ring and you will need to set up the
FAX to recognise that ring. The FAX machine cannot detect that there is an
incoming FAX on your usual phone line unless it answers the call and this is
not what you want when the call is not a FAX.
This service is available in most countries but may have a different name.
