Hi have a machine with W2k Server running with a dialup connection.

Will add a laptop which via network will share the same connection.
The laptop will be running Win98SE

I'm a novice to networking - normally a nice Adminsitrator sorts
things out for me.

I would ideally like my current Anti Virus and Zone alarm (free
version) to check the conenction when its being used by the laptop.
This way I only have to maintain one machine uptodate.

Is this possible? Or do I have to get a firewall for the 98 laptop as
well? and make sure the OS is all patched.

Any tips?

Thanks Terry

I "think" zone alarm can handle the internet connection part but I am not sure as I
have not used it with a dial up and you would have to tell it what network adapters
to guard. For more info I would post in one of the firewall newsgroups. However you
still need to keep both computers patched and protected from viruses as a firewall
will not guard against all vulnerabilities such as those that come from opening a
file that has a virus that you downloaded or came in an email attachment or from a
malicious website if your Internet Explorer security settings are set at low. ---

Thanks Guys

Well at least the fire wall will work, I take your point about having
upto date stuff on client as well.

Terry

Would be great to configure Zone Alarm and AVG to check everything
coming in through my Server and not bothering updating the client
(laptop). Updating is a pain over dialup.

Esp when I download installs that don't tend to work on win98 and have
to run th eupdate twice one for 2000 one for 98
