I replaced a 3.5 floppy in a win98 computer recently, but it can only read,
not write. does anyone have advice as to how to proceed? a chance the
replacement is faulty as well?

thanks,

Phil

Is the floppy you are using write protected?

as you put the floppy in the machine, the tab on the left should be closed

You might also try a different Floppy drive CABLE.

thanks all for your suggestions. I'll try out the cable replacement, as this
was NOT replaced when the floppy was.

there is no provision in this bios for write protect of floppies. I had also
checked to see if anti-virus software potentially interfered, but this seems
not to be the case.

Phil
