Hi,

I'm upgrading a very old Win95 PC for a friend, formatting the HD,
reinstalling Win98SE & upgrading all the drivers. I've downloaded the
latest BIOS upgrade for the motherboard (PC Partner - Intel 82430VX) & the
flash utility but I'm a little nervous as I haven't flashed a MoBo BIOS
before.

Is there anything I should know before I start, for example, should I flash
the BIOS before formatting the HD & reboot to check everything worked OK?

Thanks, Jase.

Follow the instructions within the README file that came with the new BIOS.

Only the date & a list of compatible board numbers included, I was
looking for general advice for a novice or gotchas I might miss.

TIA, J

there is no chance for power going off....running from windows?...off goes the antivirus, Norton system Worse(works), and anything
else that likes to take over your system.. personally I like to flash form my car window err rerrrrr I mean not from Windows, but

That was good.

Download Dr. Dos for making the boot disk, it's quick, easy, and you don't
have to worry about running low on memory.

http://www.hellasystems.de/ftp/Utilities/BootDisk/DrDos70/drdflash.exe

Put the flash file and utility on the disk making sure they are unzipped.
Leave the disk unlocked so you can write the old file to it.
Try booting from it, if it won't boot then check your bios boot settings.
If you are offered in the utility to save your old bios file, then by all
means do so. Give it file name and extension (anything), and write down the
file name including extension just in case you have to fix a bad flash.
Like the other people said- don't do it under weather conditions that might
cause a power loss.
