I'm interested in building a simple server in my home for file sharing
and I'd like some advice please.

Can I use an old Pentium or even a 486 computer?, I'm not building a
Game server. Also what software can I run?

I plan to share files within the house and but perhaps from the internet
as well so that I can access my files while I'm on the road. Presently I
have a 100 MBit switch handling traffic within the house and the internet
traffic handled by a router/DSL modem setup.

I'd try go little higher then 486. 300 should be decent with windows NT.
or hell install linux that would be better for file sharing. That way you
wouldnt have to worry about virus.

good luck
