The replies from other posters are good advice, and to explain the
differences in a posting is really beyond the scope of the medium.. but I am
feeling nice today.. there is a blue sky and the sun is shining.. so here
goes with the first difference..

The first thing that you notice is the nice color of the box.. a rather nice
blue or green dependant upon which version you purchased off of the awfully
nice salesman.. you will not have looked at the print on the base that
informs of minimum system requirements, so you will not have noticed that
there are no instructions on how to open the box.. but fear not.. a pointy
thing removes the clear sensuous covering.. next, discard any booklet or
piece of paper, remove the cd from its protective cover and then place it
carefully into the cd drive.. note how very little happens.. you will no
doubt have a friend who is expert in all things, and he has given to you a
Win 98 boot diskette.. you then read his/her instructions that are way more
important than any included with the product, and duly boot up the pc using
the Win 98 diskette.. at the A prompt, you type the cd drive letter that Win
98 allocated because you have failed to read each screen before moving to
the next step, and you try to type the word 'setup'.. it doesn't work.. you
have encountered the FIRST difference between XP and the Win 9x family.. at
this point, you can make any one, or a combination, of the following
statements..

1.. XP has broken my computer.. 2.. Bill Gates is selling faulty CD's.. 3..
It worked with Windows 98 (this statement works for printers, scanners,
modems and sound cards too).. 4.. Why can't Microsoft make it easy to do?
(they did but you left that part in the original box).. 5.. XP is crap and
I am staying with Windows 98..

I am having trouble locating a pointy thing, should I email Microsoft
and ask where I can buy one from?

Nope.. no purchase necessary.. go to START - KITCHEN - TOP DRAWER - TOOLS -
KNIFES and select the cheapest steak knife that you can find.. prize open
the box.. if you prize open your hand in the process, go to START -
HOSPITAL - EMERGENCY DEPT - RECEPTIONIST but don't tell anybody how you did
it.. if any error is encountered, repeat the process.. :)
