How can I put an internet explorer icon (e) on my desktop that will take me
directly to all the messages I have posted at the Microsoft forums?

I don't think you can. A better solution would be to use a real
newsreader to access these groups. This is very easy to set up and you
can filter posts the way you want. Here is information about that:

Since you are using the web interface, you may not realize that this is
really a newsgroup. You will get far more out of this resource if you
learn to use a newsreader. There are many good newsreaders for Windows,
but you can use Outlook Express since you already have it. Here are
some links to information about newsgroups:

And to add to Malke's good information, if you want to find your own
messages, go to http://groups.google.com/advanced_search and search for your
name in
whatever newsgroups you want.

Havaing trouble with google link. I entered search for author: Joni
and I entered Microsoft community Newsgroups because I want it to find all
my posts. It seems you have to sign up in order to do this.

At other forums such as Dell, I can place a shortcut on my desktop that will
take me directly to all of my posts. Can't I do this with MS?

No, you're confused because you think this is a forum. It's not--it's a
newsgroup. You are using the web interface to read this newsgroup--it's the
slowest, clunkiest, most error-prone method there is. Do yourself a favor
and switch to a newsreader, such as Outlook Express, which comes with
Windows. See http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/outlookexpressnewreader.htm

On Googlegroups, you can find this one with the name
microsoft.public.windowsxp.newusers. You can find all the Microsoft Windows
XP newsgroups with the name microsoft.public.windowsxp.*

I am getting very discouraged. When I try to post new, nothing opens to post
in.

I have been told that it is much easier to use Newsgroups so I tried to set
up my Outlook Express User newsgroups. I entered the name I want to appear
on my posts. For the e-mail address it gave my hotmail address and I edited
this to read (removethis) after my name and left the hotmail.com. I believe
this is how it should be done if I don't want alot of spam. Next the
Internet Connection Wizzard appeared and it wanted me to type in News (NNTP)
server then there is a box saying My news server requires me to log in. I do
not know what to put in these boxes - I called Verizon. I havve Verizon
Premium with MSN. The person I spoke with was no help. Can you advise me
further? Thanks
Joni

If you follow my step by step, you should be able to retreive and post to
the newsgroups.

For the Microsoft newsgroups, use msnews.microsoft.com for the News server
name, and do *not* check the box "My news server requires me to log in." For
general instructions regarding setting up Outlook Express for newsgroups,
please refer to the link I provided below,
http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/outlookexpressnewreader.htm

I am trying to followyour instructions to set up Outlook Express Newsreader.
When I get to step 11 From View. (view is not lit up so I cannot select
anything.
Thanks for your help so far. Please advise

From OE Tools> Options> Read> Set the number of headers to retrieve to 1000.
I did this. Uncheck the checkbox to download all the messages in a
newsgroup. There is no such option

(recommended, but takes a considerable amount of time. OE Newsreader will
give a much higher estimate of the posts to download. Estimate is over a
million headers for the general group, but actual number is around 90 to 100
thousand.) The XP newsgroups have a very high volume and average posts in
some groups exceed 1000 posts per day, using the default 300 headers to
download would give only a fraction of the posts and replies to the
newsgroups.

I cannot get step 11 to work. Step 11: From View> Current View select Show
All Messages. Still does not light up

But did you start over from the beginning and follow the steps to the
letter? I am pretty sure if you retrace the steps you will find you made a
typo or checked a box you shouldn't have.
I have never received a email where they couldn't get OE newsreader to work
when it wasn't one of the above mistakes.

advise
once again.

Note I can; however, read your post in Outlook Express but if I click on
reply, I get a message saying there was an error opening this messaage.
An
error has occurred. Now I see that when I have OE open with the new user
discussions posts including your that at this point I can complete steps
in
the View menu because it is now lit up.

Please comment

If I click on address book it says unable to open address book Address
Book
has not been installed properly.-- Can I just reinstall the address book
without reinstalling OE
