Hello all,

Im looking to build an FTP server on my home computer using WinXP Pro.
I am behind a Linksys router and Im using a broadband cable connection
that has a dynamic ip address.

Im looking for information no what is the best FTP server program to
use that is not extremely expensive. Also Im looking for advice in
setting it up.

Any suggestions?

Well one I use is free gulidftp. For the dynamic iping you will have
get some kind of dns service that will update your ip when it changes.
One for that is no-ip.com. Then once you set up the program make sure
you have port 21 open on your rounter.

Read this for information on what ports you need to forward.
http://slacksite.com/other/ftp.html

http://www.dyndns.org (or similar) to register a subdomain name.

http://www.palacio-cristal.com/products/DeeEnEs (or similar) as an ip
updater. There are several websites which will return your routers ip
address eg http://checkip.dyndns.org/ so select web based ip
detection.

Then remote machines can refer to you by a fixed public name.

Jim.
