I am having two IE6.0 problems.

1) When I click on tools/internet options I get the
folowing message..... This opperation has been canceled
due to restrictions on this computer. Please contact your
system adminastrater. This is a home pc, there is no
adminastrator

2) The advanced tab is missing form the internet option
when I got controle pannel/internet options.

Any ideas?

Did you install SpyBot?
When I go to 'Tools' 'Internet Options' I get the following error:
This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this
computer. Please contact your system administrator.

If you have SpyBot S & D installed, go to SpyBot - Search and Destroy
Immunize, and UNcheck the "Lock IE Control Panel..." box.

Or possibly:

Java.JJBlack Trojan? Check it out.

Should be detected by most antivirus programmes.

Hides the following Internet Explorer options - "Security" Tab and
"Advanced" Tab.

To fix, use regedit to navigate to the following registry keys. Delete the
words that are in bold below in the right hand pane.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control
Panel\SecurityTab
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control
Panel\AdvancedTab
It interferes with the following registry keys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\Search Page
(delete to reset default)
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\Search Bar
(delete to reset default)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\Search Page
(delete to reset default)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\Search Bar
(delete to reset default)
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\SearchAssistant
(delete to reset default)
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\CustomizeSearch
(delete to reset default)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\SearchAssistant
(delete to reset default)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\CustomizeSearch
(delete to reset default)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\URL\DefaultPref
ix (see HERE for correct settings)
It creates the following files (delete them)
%windows%\s.htm
%windows%\hosts
%windows%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
%favorites%\Nude Nurses.url
%favorites%\Search You Trust.url
%favorites%\Your Favorite Porn Links.url
To prevent future infections using the same trick, update your version of
the java vm to at least 3180. Information on how to do that can be found
here.

Hi Chris,

Remove IE Restrictions & Restore Missing tabs. Download a fix from:
http://mvps.org/sramesh2k/reg/IE_reset_restrictions.reg

Also, refer Fix 268 from Kelly's site: [For Windows XP]
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Restore All tabs in IE and Removes the ** Internet Options ** Restrictions
as well

The problem may be due to:

1. A spyware. Download Ad-Aware from www.lavasoftusa.com, scan the system
and eliminate the malware products. Re-apply the above fix if necessary.
** Remember to update the pattern file using WebUpdate in Ad-Aware **

( Caused by a malware called CoolWebSearch. Also, Download:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/cwshredder.zip )

2. You have enabled SpyBot immunize (protection) feature or any other
similar software. Also, disable the following features:
"Lock IE start page against user changes"
"Lock IE control panel against opening from within IE"
