Advanced Server NLB

I have two servers in a Load balance team.

I have to run them in Unicast mode because of the way the
Network is setup.

The servers have a problem talking to each other and
browsing the network. I have put them through their own
switch (level 2) which solved the problem until they are
rebooted.

When they have been rebooted the servers can no longer
talk to each other, and it takes a lot of fiddling around
putting the network cables into different switches etc,
before they will work properly again.

Can anyone help??

Hi Emma,
If the servers only have one network card you should be using multicast
mode. The servers can not communicate the heartbeat appropriatly when there
is only one NIC and unicast mode is used. If you want to use unicast mode I
suggest you change the configuration to 2 NIC; one NIC in one subnet for
NLB and the second NIC in a different subnet that can be either private for
them or to another network that has resources the nodes need to access on
the back end.

This could be a problem with the way your switch is setup. I am including
links to 2 KB articles in this post, one is the correct way to setup NLB
when using 2 NIC cards and the other is configuration options when you hook
NLB up to a layer 2 switch.
