Hello;
I had a shortcut to Search/For Files and Folders that I thought I had found at Kelly's Korner or
at Doug Knox's site. I have searched both sites and I can not find it again. It opened Search so
you didn't have to check Advanced every. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Laurie;
I appreciate the speedy reply. Thank you. And Win + F opens search, but you still have to tick
the Advanced Search options. IMHO if you do not have the Advanced options checked Search is
worthless. Not quite what I was looking for.

Durand;
Hey, thanks for the reply and the reg file.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Search Assistant
"UseAdvancedSearchAlways"=dword:00000001
Was already set at 1 in my Registry.
----
Have the following keys set also:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer
"SearchSystemDirs"=dword:00000001
"SearchHidden"=dword:00000001
"IncludeSubFolders"=dword:00000001
"SearchSlowFiles"=dword:00000001
-----
I failed to mention that I was using Classic Search. I really screwed up. Instead of using a
shortcut to whatever *.vbs script file I had, I used the actual file, I lost it and I did not have a
backup. Dumb. dumb, dumb. Damn. I had it set up with a custom icon (Sherlock's magnifying glass)
and every thing.
----
I changed the following key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CabinetState
Use Search Asst REG_SZ yes
----
By changing to the Search Companion, search now opens to my settings of Advanced Search. I guess I
will use this until I can find the *.vbs file that I had before. Thank you again. Laurie's Win + F
tip also opens to the Advanced Search settings.

Hey, thank you! That was it. Exactly what I was looking for. I don't know why I couldn't find
it. I looked twice. Well, Kelly does have a lotta stuff.
I already had all the *.reg & *.vbs files downloaded and I already had searchadvancedoptions.vbs
in my Windows directory. All I had to do was create a shortcut to searchadvancedoptions.vbs, change
the icon and place it on my Start Menu. Whoopee.. It's working again like a champ. Thanks again.
Merry Christmas to you!

Wes;

I found it by visiting http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Then [Ctrl]+[F]
search
[Enter]

Then [Enter] repeatedly until I found
Line 151. Set "Search" Advanced Options as Default

| I already had all the *.reg & *.vbs files downloaded...

Be advised that these files are updated by MVP Kelly from time to time; sometimes the file-name is changed. Also, completely new
files are occasionally added to the list, while some files are removed.

Yeah, I know about Ctrl + F. Probably didn't use Find Next enough. Thanks for the info.
