Does anyone know any imaging software for Windows similar to Adobe
Photoshop or the GIMP (for Linux) that is free? I used the GIMP on
Linux and loved it but I can't find a Windows alternative.

Gimp is available for windows. It is discussed right on the gimp home
page, http://www.gimp.org. There is a link there to a windows install
package.
