advanced find in more than one folder

We want to be able to do an advanced find in a series of public subfolder
We get the messag
"the folder you selected does not let you search more than one folder at the same time"
Any ideas why
How do we get around this

I don't think you can natively, but Lookout (http://www.lookoutsoft.com/)
can span multiple public folders.
