The new way of associating files with applications (Default Programs)
seem to be nice enough, but I miss one feature of the old way. Namely
the ability to add/remove items to the context menu you get when
right-clicking a file. There are some file-types that I'd like to open
with one application most of the time (60%) but quite often (35%) I'd
like to use another application instead.

Anyone knows how to change these things in Vista?

I will echo the request... The Default Programs applet is a welcome change,
however;

In my case I use Microsoft Digital Image Suite 2006 to edit Photos. I'm am
ok with quickly viewing photos in Photo Gallery but miss the Right click on a
jpg in and folder > choose Edit and have the photo open in DIP for editing.

If there is a way to add this to the context menus, I haven't found it.

I echo this request.

I use Microsoft Digital Image Pro to edit photos, I'm already missing the
ability to right click a jpg in a folder > choosing Edit > and having it open
in DIP.

If there is a way to set this up I haven't found it.

Another vote here...I want a double click on a picture file to open it in an
image browser, but want instantaneous right click ability to open it in
Photoshop for editing.

It seems like Vista is half "idiot proof"-lowest common denominator computer
user, taking all the control out of a users hands so they dont have to know
how things work, and half "fully locked down" for business...with little
middle room for intelligent computer users who like to customize the OSto
their needs...

A couple of examples:
I have no interest in ever locking my computer, yet I have found no way to
take the lock button off the start menu(right next to the power button) I
have accidently hit it a couple times.
I would like ReadyBoost to not use encryption on my usb flash drive
I would like to have a middle ground between security against online
attacks, and allowing me to install programs from a CD
