I am running ME, and some time ago the tabs just
disappeared. A number of other weird things have been
happening lately, and if I can get those tabs back I think
I can fix the other problems.

Any help you can give would be awesome.

Check that you do not have a User Interface Tweaking program keeping them
hidden. FreshUI for example has that ability and I believe X-Setup will also
allow you to hide those tabs.

THanks, but I have to admit to being confused. I don't
understand what registry keys are.

Okay, I figured out what you were talking about. I
followed the instructions, but I didn't seem to have part
of the paths that were suggested. On the first one I
didn't seem to have a "current user" under H-Key. I got
as far as "Microsoft" on the second one, but there was
no "Internet Explorer" option after that.

I would really appreciate any further clarification you
could offer.

My thanks,

Along4577,

I have just returned from a "day at the beach" so to speak. Sorry, that I
could not attend to your needs, but it appears that you have all well in
hand now, and have had guidance from the most able people.

Get and use a spyware removal tool and your tabs will likely come back
without you having to fiddle with the registry. Fiddling is usually
pointless, because if the spyware is still present, it will likely reset
the restrictions next time it runs.

Adaware by Lavasoft:

If these two tools don't do the job, post back and we can recommend
other tools to analyze your system and manually find the offending
spyware.
