Recently I've been getting the problem that Powerpoint Xp
decides to lock out during slideshow, after about 20
seconds then it kicks back in to advance to the next
slide. Running Windows XP SP1. What's happening? Can
anybody enlighten me? All I've done recently is load
Office Xp SP3. Is this causing the problem.

Is it all of the time and does it happen with all presentations? What else
is running on the system? Do you have anti-virus software running?

No, just this one presentation. Notting else is runing. Yes, I run
anti-virus and a firewall. But the problem occurs on other pc's too, without
anti-virus etc.

It seems to happen on a number of presentations, various
laptops all running McAfee antivirus software.
None are connected to a network or the internet.
It's just so random, I'm lost! I just can't think what it
is?

I would first try disabling McAfee and see whether that makes a difference.
During that 20 seconds can you switch to Task Manager and see what's eating
up CPU cycles? This is kind of hard to do on a single monitor system, but
on a dual monitor system I would run the slide show on the secondary monitor
and have Task Manager activated and displayed on the primary monitor and the
Processes tab open with the report sorted on CPU column in descending order.
That would tell you what process is jumping in and pegging the CPU, causing
the delay in the mouse and keyboard.
