Hi people... First Time Caller long time listener...
I have a Network of 5 computers (6 if you count the laptop but it's not
often)
Each PC is running Windows 200 Professional. One opperates as a "server"
(WIN 2k Prof NOT server) it has the common folders for files for the
network... and a laser printer attached. All users need to access all files.
We just recently switched from Internet Sharing over a Phone line (worked
great but of course slow internet) to a USB ADSL Modem / 4 Port router. The
Internet works great on all Machines.. without any problems...
The modem Router is attached via USB to this "server" pc, the rest of the
network is Linked via a RJ45 cable from the modem/router into the other
original 6 port hub to give us enough ports for the current network and give
us the 3 remaining ports on the Modem Router for expansion, if needed.
HOWEVER...
Our network seems to be not working well...
In the original Phone line setup.. we had no probs at all.. but in this
setup we can generally load a file from the "Server" but saving them often
causes problems.
Eg. Corel Draw and WORD will often either hang during a save.. or after a
long time (2 minutes or so) come up with an error about the network or
something. One error said the path was too deep in a folder off the root
directory.
Frontpage is also slow at saving. Taking around 4 seconds for a save that
used to take "no time all"
Does anyone have an ideas?
I woudl really appreciate anything you can offer...
You can contact me at (e-mail address removed)
Thanx in advance.
