I have a 2k/xp network on to which an ADSL modem is
connected directly to the switch, rather than the 2k
server.
The ADSL modem's IP address is set as the gateway for
every computer on the network.
The internal network workstations/servers can communicate
with eachother without problems.
Any computer that attempts to go to an IP address external
to the ADSL modem fails.
If I tracert the FQDN or the IP address of an external
host, it finds the gateway on hop 1, but then fails to
find anything else on hop 2.

Please help!

I presume it is a router, not just a modem!

It is really a matter of how this router is configured. Does it do NAT
for the LAN clients? If the clients use the ADSL router as their default
gateway, that's all they can do about it. The rest is up to the router.
