adsl modem hangs when uploading

Can anyone help me? I have XP home edition and a
Speedtouch USB modem. The driver is an old one pre-XP.
I cannot install any updates as I get an "Ikernel.exe -
Application error". I can provide you with the detailed
numbers if that would help.

The reason I am trying to update the driver is that the
modem icon turns from green (working normally) to yellow
(initializing) and only a reboot will allow me to use the
net again. It happens on every single upload, whether it
be an email attachment or an FTP website upload.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Where did you get the driver from? The driver for the Speedtouch USB modem
appear to be located at http://www.speedtouchdsl.com/support.htm and the
file name isn't Ikernel.exe. Try getting the drivers from there, and also
try the troubleshooting guide for the Speedtouch USB modem that is there as
well.

If you are not sure if this is the right page for your modem, look at the
picture here to confirm they look the same:

If you have any questions, reply to this post on the newsgroup.

I have downloaded the correct driver and tried the
troubleshooting guide. The Ikernel.exe application is a
part of the installshield program which is why the new
driver will not install. Other programs and drivers will
install fine, just not the new Speedtouch USB driver. I
have also downloaded the most recent version of
Ikernel.exe which does not help.
