I am using a USB Broadband Modem for my desktop PC.
Would it be OK to load the same ADSL drivers onto my
laptop and use the same modem with the laptop so that my
laptop can use Broadband, and then just interchange the
modem between the two computers as needed? Is there a
better solution?

Many thanks

Steve

yes for me it was better to get a router and use it that
way you can have both on the internet at the same time.
You connect the modem to the router and then the computer
to the router.

Yes. Use a router but if it isn't built-in to the modem or costs too
much then I suppose you could just network your computers.

There is a better solution. Cable Modem/DSL routers are about $100 cheaper
than when I got mine (to as low as $40). They offer a bit of security as well,
as you set them up as the computer that the DSL provider sees. (The term is
NAT).

Then you use regular Ethernet connections to plug your computers into this
router. My wife and I are always connected through this.

What is also nice about using a router, is most are DHCP
so you don't have to enter an IP address. My DSL assigns
me a static address, so I set my router to this address,
actually the wizard did it for me and set up my router as
a DHCP server and away I went. The router method is just
so much eaiser, then it also gives you the ability to have
a network too.
