i currently have a couple of win2000 DC on my network and a member server
that runs exchange 2000

i am going to be upgrading to exchange 2003 on a win2003 member server, i
have ran adprep /forestprep from the windows 2003 cd to prepare the do
forest, this seems to have been fine, can see things in adsiedit under
configuration.

when i go to run the adprep /domainprep i get the cmd box, sits there for a
minute without doing anything and then disappears, i do not think the
domainprep is running, is there any where i can check to see what is going
on

thanks

Check the log files under:
-- %Systemroot%\system32\debug\adprep\logs

Note. You need to run the exchange setup forestprep and domainprep to
install Exchange. The tool you are running is for Windows Server 2003.

Note. If you are preparing your forest for Windows 2003, you should use the
R2 ADPREP: http://www.msresource.net/content/view/60/47/

Note. If you are running Exchange 2000 and you are running ADPREP, ensure
you implement kb314649 first.

Have You applied schema updates to fix iNEtOrgPerson attributes
introduced with Ex2000. If not You can have mangled attributes there in
schema:

ADPREP is writing log from its operations:

i am planning on moving to windows 2003 domain later in the year, want to do
exchange first, server is failing and want to take advantage of various
other features

i have also ran the ldf file as well, it said completed successfully, can i
check this somewhere as well

thanks for the input

this is the log file from today

i just want to check but this all seems ok now, i will be able to start the
exchange prep

if you have any other suggestions i can check before hand or do that would
be most helpful

thank you again

Adprep created the log file ADPrep.log under
C:\WINNT\system32\debug\adprep\logs\20060310110131 directory.

Adprep copied file D:\I386\schema.ini from installation point to local
machine under directory C:\WINNT.

Adprep successfully made the LDAP connection to the local domain controller
Servername.

Adprep was about to call the following LDAP API. ldap_search_s(). The base
entry to start the search is (null).

LDAP API ldap_search_s() finished, return code is 0x0

Adprep successfully retrieved information from the local directory service.

Adprep successfully initialized global variables.

[Status/Consequence]

Adprep is continuing.

Domain-wide information has already been updated.
